Dr. Michael Scanameo, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist with over 25 years of experience. He has performed over 30 thousand surgeries and specializes in anterior segment procedures including cutting edge cataract surgery with multifocal and Toric lens implants to correct presbyopia and astigmatism. He offers injection of intraocular antibiotics with cataract surgery to reduce post op eye drops. Additionally, Dr. Scanameo also provides glaucoma surgery including MIGS with cataract surgery as well as standalone stents and filtering bleb procedures. Superficial keratectomy and endothelial keratoplasty with DSEK and DMEK round out his surgical expertise. Dr. Scanameo prides himself on providing top-quality eye care in a professional and approachable manner.
Dr. Scanameo grew up on Long Island and received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. After working in the engineering field for six years, Dr. Scanameo attended State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn NY and received his medical degree. He then completed his internship and residency at Long Island Jewish MC where he was chief resident.
Dr. Scanameo is married to his wife of 33 years, and they have four daughters and a new son-in- law. He and his wife are now empty nesters and have decided to move from the Midwest to join Desert Vista Eye Specialists to so that he may continue to pursue his passion of state-of-the-art eye surgery with the highest quality of care. In his free time Dr. Scanameo enjoys photography, biking, swimming and hiking as well as sampling his wife’s gourmet cooking.
